What a glorious time to be alive! The trees are budding, the flowers are blooming, and the grass is growing.  What more do we need? Right now, yes right now, take a moment to breathe deeply, and enjoy the wondrous beauty of spring.  If we do not take the time to participate in the simple pleasures, how can we fully enjoy living?  These simple pleasures are all around us, and best yet, they're free!  If you are like me, I find it easy to get so busy that days go by and I never even look up at the blue sky.   Friends, it is time “to stop and smell the roses.”  OK, so the roses aren’t out but you know what I mean. Gift yourself with a walk (without cell phone). Take your coffee outside and relax with a book. Talk with a neighbor over the fence.  The point is, give yourself permission to slow down and enjoy a moment or two of quiet reflection, liberated from the daily grind, technology, and duty.  Life is lived in the now moment, not next Saturday. The world will not come to a stop if you take a moment to care for yourself.  The moments away are often the most refreshing and restorative to the mind, body, and spirit.

My garden is a place where I restore.  I enjoy getting up early in the morning and checking on the growth of the plants.  Then, I grab my hoe and I give it a good going over.  As I sit and survey the blooming plants and the order of the garden, I feel inspired.  I feel that I have participated in the creative process.  I feel the Presence alive in the world and within me.  Many people would rather eat glass than work in a garden, and that is why each of us must find our own joy.  The choice is yours, the action is yours, and the joy is yours.  What’s to lose...a missed phone call, an unanswered e-mail or a dirty dish?

A few moments away to align with the beauty of God’s natural sanctuary is healing, invigorating, and restores inner peace of heart and mind.  Just a thought . . . .

Namaste,
Rev. Elena Langstaff
